Description
The plant usually grows 6 to 8 ft tall, habit subshurb, have sitting leaves facing each other, large and long leaves similar to banana leaves. It produces red, beautiful hanging bracts which bloom between July and November. Flowers are borne on the spatha with downright orientation, has single ovulum. A layer of wax coats the leaves and flowers of the plant, serving as a defense against insects. Flowers and leaves contain saponins and flavonoids. has schizocarp fruit. The fruit is first yellow and then matures to a bright purple-blue color.
